The dance floor is a different place at hour four than it is at hour one. Most nights never get there. Unedited is built around that space: one artist, open to close, uninterrupted.

DJ Spun sold his guitar and bought turntables in 1988. A San Jose native, he came up in the founding generation of SF’s acid house scene: the Trocadero Transfer, Townsend, Hardkiss, The Gathering, A Rave Called Sharon, and the Wicked crew. After years in New York, he is back home in the Bay.

His Promo Only imprint introduced the disco edit craze to the US. Rong Music put out some of the sharpest records of the 2000s through a dual-imprint deal with DFA. For seven years he curated MoMA PS1’s Warm Up series. He records as BlakSpun with Mark Bell and Darwin Chamber, and leads the Loose Control Band with Jonah Sharp.

Recorded live for As You Like It. Listen in two parts via SoundCloud. You can also hear DJ Spun’s AYLI podcast and read AYLI Design Director Ken Vulsion’s interview with him.
